The New Zealander, best rookie of 2021, also achieved pole position this year in St. Petersburg, where he also won the race.
He will start ahead of Frenchman Romain Grosjean (Andretti Autosport) and Danish Christian Lundgaard (Rahal Letterman Lanigan).

Pato O’Ward, sixth in the standings, will start fifth after clocking a time of 1.14.926.
It was not a good day for Will Power, who started in eighth placeor for the Swedish Marcus Ericsson (Team Penske), second classified, who barely got the eighteenth time.
