The lap 22which will be held from August 19 to September 11, will be a benchmark for sustainability and environmental protection, with trophies made of recycled glass for stage winners, eco-waste collection areas and a “green platoon” of volunteers dedicated to Cleansing.

Unipublic and Ecovidrio, responsible for the organization and management of waste recycling in Spain, presented this Tuesday the sustainability measures of the 77th edition of the competition with the slogan “For a sustainable Tour”.

“From La Vuelta, we always try to be pioneers and assume sustainability as one of the hallmarks of the competition. Additional measures are being taken to reduce the environmental footprint of La Vuelta”, declared Javier Guillengeneral manager of La Vuelta.

The contest wants to be a stage for raising awareness about the preservation of natural heritage and recycling, with measures such as the winners receiving on stage a trophy made of recycled glass and depositing bottles of glass in a container installed on the podium.

The route includes “eco zones” for garbage collection, installed every 40 kilometers, where runners also leave their garbage to avoid penalties, and the so-called “Green Platoon”, which consists of citizens who will work in mountain stages to clean up garbage and garbage in the natural environment.

The act of presenting the measures in Madrid also had the participation of Oscar Pereiroformer cyclist and Ecovidrio ambassador, and Borja MartiarenaMarketing Director of Ecovidrio, among others.

“Cycling is a sport closely related to nature, so the participants of La Vuelta must be an example to follow for the spectators. In times like this, when dozens of forest fires are taking place , it is more than clear that the need to take care of our natural heritage”, pointed out Pereiro, champion of the 2006 Tour and ambassador of the campaign.
