Kyrgios deflated against Hurkacz after a nine-game winning streak

Date:

the australian Nick Kyrgios holed up after winning nine straight singles matches, to which must be added his double from last Sunday, lifting the Washington ATP 500 champion trophies to himself and also to the couple he formed with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The Wimbledon finalist decided to continue the good run and chained the event in the US capital in Canadian ATP Masters 1000, in Montreal. After defeating the Argentine Sebastián Baéz, the world number one, the Russian Daniel Medvedev and the ‘aussie’, Alex de Minaur, collided with another powerful player on the hard court, the Polish Hubert Hurkacz.

Kyrgios tied the second set but failed in the third. They lost 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5) and 6-1 in 1h.46′ of the quarterfinal match.

This is the second defeat for the new Kyrgios, who is more balanced physically and mentally, showing his true and enormous potential, in 17 games, including the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic.

Kyrgios is well aware of Hurkacz’s potential, beating him in aces (20 to 19), repeating last month’s success in the Halle grass semis, when the European, 25 years old and number 10, won 4 -6, 7- 6 (2), 7-6 (4).

There were no ‘breaks’ in the first two sets, in the third Kyrgios delivered his powerful serve twice. Hurkacz held his own, coming off six break points in the match that took him to the semifinal against the Norwegian. Casper Ruud or the canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

World number 37, Kyrgios will enter the top-30. He will reach the US Open as the top seed, more of a relief for his rivals than for him. Although before he is expected at Masters 1000 ATP in Cincinnati.
