Amaiur Sarriegi: “We will be the same Real”

Date:

Amaur Sarriegi (Donostia, 2000) is keen to continue offering his full potential in his third season as a txuri urdin. He is positively looking forward to the new competition in the future, the Champions League.

How are you feeling after a few days off after the European Championship?

I’m so beautiful. I was disconnected and I was excited and anxious.

How did you experience not getting into the first call for the European Championship?

These are football things and decisions I can’t make on my own. What is in my hands is to do the best possible in Real.

How was your preseason week?

Very good. In the beginning, the pre-seasons were a bit difficult because you haven’t touched the ball for quite a while and you haven’t been running, but I haven’t been that long without doing physical activity. Compared to other seasons, I’ve seen better.

What can Amaiur show this season?

What I don’t miss as usual is work. With sacrifice and effort things are achieved. Every day has to be given importance in Zubieta.

What goals are you setting this season?

It’s a little early to start talking about goals, but we have to do our best. Last season was incredible. We have to try to continue in the same line. Not so much looking at the results, but looking at all the work that has been done for so long.

It’s your third season at Real, what balance are you making?

Very positive. Ultimately, over the years, I’ve grown and matured a lot both on and off the pitch. In the end, in a very short period of time, a lot happened to me. Last year we experienced something incredible that I was lucky enough to be a part of. It has been the best classification in the history of Real and I have lived it for very few years.

What are the best moments you have had with Real?

I will tell you two games. One was played here against Rayo, proving that we will be in the Champions League this season. It is something very beautiful in the stands. We sang Txoria txori and I was moved to tears. In second place, in Tenerife when the referee blew the final whistle and we were second classified.

Do you see yourself this season in the top positions as well?

The team in general terms maintains its structure and base. The new signings are going to contribute their things, the people from B are very excited. I think what we need to ask ourselves is the work to fight for really cool things. Last year we weren’t asking to be there, but we were because we were asking for the job.

Are there options to approach a weak Barcelona without Alexia Putellas?

Alexia’s loss was clearly noticeable. In general, the casualties they have had are important, but I think Barcelona is a team with more alternatives and combinations. We have to be on that path of trying to reach the level they are at, it is clear and the numbers speak for themselves, we are not there yet. We have to keep working.

How are you looking forward to the Champions League and who do you want to face?

The truth is I don’t care, although obviously you have to try to avoid some rivals. I have the same enthusiasm, desire and confidence as last year in the league with the team. It doesn’t matter who is ahead of us. We will be the same Royal. I have the feeling that both the team and I don’t care because we have full confidence in each other to go as far as possible.
