The Polish Hubert Hurkacz, 25 years old and world number 10, he became Canada’s first Masters 1000 ATP finalist, in Montreal, by defeating the Norwegian Casper Ruud23 years old and number 7, by 5-7, 6-3 and 6-2 in 2h.02′.
Hurkacz, this season’s champion on Halle grass and premiering his Masters 1000 record in Miami 2021, will play for the crown this Sunday against the best of the other semifinals, which will be played by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic medalist (this time twelve months) Pablo Carreno and the british Dan Evans.
Hurkacz has an interesting fact in his favor: he won all five finals played on the circuit. Although he has had extra work in Canada since he also made it to the doubles semis with his compatriot Jan Zielinsky.
