One in two Spaniards are increasing their use of public transport following the rise in fuel prices

mobility habits have changed with the passage of time and circumstances. This has now happened with the incessant rise in prices, which has changed the way many citizens move around cities. According to a survey by the urban mobility app Moovit even more than one
51% of Spaniards use public transport more because of the high fuel costs.

From the company Intel, provider of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions, they ensure that citizens use the
private vehicle choose public transport. In turn, only 28% of those surveyed deny having changed their driving habits because of inflation affecting prices, while 20% say they don’t own a vehicle.

Nearly half of the people surveyed by
Moovit (48%) also answered in the affirmative when asked whether their family or friends have changed their mobility habits in recent months, leading to them also using vehicles less often. For their part, almost 32% say that family and friends now use public transport more often than before.

The number of people who have started to combine public transport with
micro-mobility solutions (9% of the respondents do so), while 7% now use their own bicycle or scooter more. Only 28% believe that mobility in their immediate environment has not changed.

The measures to encourage the use of public transport are one of the most praised by Spanish citizens. For example, more than 75% of users of this type of transport consider the introduction of the free pass on Cercanía and medium-distance trains to be excellent.

In addition, about the measures to
reduce fuel costs In our country, 72% of those surveyed support this government rule, followed by free urban public transport and a temporary return to telecommuting to avoid the daily commute.

This survey collects the opinions of users from all provincial capitals, with Madrid (41%) and Barcelona (15%) leading the way. They are followed by another 58 municipalities, including some examples such as those of Valencia, Vigo, the Region of Murcia, Seville, Burgos and Malaga.
