In a complicated year in which sales have fallen due to the components crisis, brands are betting on SUV models and electrified mechanics
Revamped cars, new models or just some mechanical or aesthetic changes and updates mean the market is from October to December
pending presentation and arrival at Spanish dealers of at least 25 novelties. All of them are characterized by a crisis context affecting consumers, who are looking for low-consumption cars, and also by fashion, in which SUVs remain the dominant trend.
This year was complicated, both by the decline in car production in Spain and by the sales figures. During
the first eight months of 2022, production is down 1% from last year to a total of 1,399,262 units. While growth has already been moderate in recent months thanks to improvements in chip supply and factories’ ability to adapt to component availability, the sector continues to be hit by the commodity crisis.
An important factor is also the growing trend towards electrification, where hybrid, plug-in hybrid or 100% electric vehicles are increasingly demanded, which in turn increases prices and requires a greater number of components. These are some of the reasons for the aforementioned slowdown in production and sales in Spain.
According to the most recent data from the Association of Manufacturers, ANFAC, the main production corresponds to electrified vehicles, which reached a share of 12.8% in the month of July, with 19,464 units, and 11.8% in the month of August,
with 13,181 units produced in this month. Until the eighth month of the year, electrified, hybrid and gas vehicles account for 13% of vehicles produced with a total of 182,436 units.
As for the production of electrified vehicles, they accumulated 11.4% of vehicle production in the first eight months of the year, totaling 159,843 units, 22.9% more than in the same period of the previous year. By type, plug-in hybrids total 88,606 units, with a production increase of 5.3% compared to 2021.
the pure electricityto the eighth month, they collect 71,237 units, of which 53,844 are passenger cars, with a growth of 55.4% compared to the same period in 2021.
By segment, SUVs continue to increase their weight in sales. More than enough reason that most of the novelties that we will see in the coming months come from this segment, in which the trend towards hybrid or plug-in hybrid mechanics is also drifting. Because although
sale of 100% electric cars They are up 47% compared to last year, the truth is that they represent barely 3% of the total market, with some 21,276 units sold.
Among the most notable novelties are cars from the less popular segments, such as supercars and pickup trucks, which maintain a very loyal type of customer.
