How do you know from the license plate which other environment corresponds to your vehicle?

Date:

This labeling is already mandatory in some cities and will become even more important in 2023 when the low-emission zone plan is implemented.

The eco-labels (Label 0, Eco, C and B) have a short existence in the life of drivers. However, this labeling, which classifies vehicles on the basis of their energy efficiency, taking into account their environmental impact, has gained in importance in recent years. And it will be from 2023 when the owners will have to be more concerned about having this sticker on the windshield along with that of the latest Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV).

Due to the implementation of the plan for low emission zones in cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, cars will have to carry the environmental label to control access to these areas. At the moment, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) does not require the wearing of the sticker. However, in cities like Barcelona or Madrid, where these low-emission zones have already been demarcated, the municipal councils already require having the sticker. Not only that, but if you don’t, you’ll be fined 90 euros in the capital. For example, each municipality can impose its own restrictions, depending on what is laid down in the municipal bye-laws.

That is why, especially for next year, it is advisable to wear the label. It is important that you know which environmental label belongs to your vehicle. You can consult these via the DGT page and with the registration number. Although, depending on the model and age, you have the right to obtain or not to obtain the decal.

You can access this consultation service via the DGT’s Electronic Headquarters via the following route: ‘Home’ > ‘Vehicles’ > ‘Consult the environmental label’. Enter the registration number and you will immediately know if you are entitled to get it. You will see the environmental label associated with the vehicle because of its characteristics or an explanation of why the vehicle is not entitled to it. After that, you can obtain and buy the badge through a post office, the network of workshops of the Spanish Confederation of Workshops (CETRAA) and other networks of authorized workshops, Administrative Managers, the Institute of Automotive Studies (IDEAUTO). In the case of fleets, you can obtain the badges through the Ganvam association. The costs are 5 euros.

In addition to the telematics route, you can check your environmental label by telephone or in person.

-The telephone number for these questions is 060. You can call for automatic attention 24 hours a day, every day of the year. If you would like a specialized agent to assist you, the opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, excluding national holidays.

– You have at your disposal the consultation in any head office or traffic bureau. In this case, you must request an appointment online or by calling 060. Face-to-face service is reserved for individuals and their representatives. Companies and other legal entities, as well as their representatives, must conduct their procedures electronically.
