In addition to speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, not wearing a seat belt is one of the most important factors in injury.
The authorities are clear. Wearing a seat belt halves the risk of death in an accident and
protects against being thrown out of the passenger compartmentand hit the windshield.
In an urban area, the chance of being seriously injured or killed is 5 times lower when worn. A collision with a speed of 50 km/h is equivalent to a fall from a second floor. And in a frontal collision at 80 km/h, failure to wear the helmet could result in death or serious injury to users.
The maximum effectiveness occurs in the case of a rollover, where it reduces the risk of death by 77%. In fact, the seat belt works complementary to the airbag. The latter is not effective in itself.
Not wearing a seat belt in the rear seats poses a major risk: in a frontal collision, the risk of a rear passenger fatally hitting one of the front passengers is 8 times greater.
Likewise, not wearing a seat belt, along with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, is one of the major factors in causing injury.
