Up to 60,000 models can be affected by this fault, which can cause injury to the occupants in the event of an accident.
The Consumers and Users Organization warned of the dangerous malfunction affecting the airbags of some Volkswagen cars. The Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Dangerous Products (RAPEX) has issued two statements warning of the flaw found in the airbag inflation mechanism of some passenger cars manufactured by the German company.
Affected vehicles are VW Polo, Passat, Crafter and Fox produced between May 2007 and May 2009 and equipped with Takata brand airbags. According to OCU, these could affect up to 60,000 models.
The manufacturer itself warned that the inflator can deteriorate over the years, releasing fragments during the inflation process. A situation that can cause injury to the occupants in a collision.
OCU understands that Volkswagen will contact the owners to resolve the issue, which must be done free of charge and as soon as possible. In any case, OCU recommends asking the brand’s customer service department if your vehicle is affected, especially if it was bought second-hand, as it probably won’t be in the brand’s databases.
