The new Kia Sportage is the winner of the ABC Award for Best Car of the Year 2023, an SUV that represents the South Korean brand’s course for the future, with spacious and modern interiors and futuristic design lines on the exterior. This assumes
the first time the manufacturer wins this award in its 30-year history in Spain.
The fifth generation of
kia sportage It has a completely new aesthetic and represents a major commitment to electrification. The model combines an elegant and muscular design with an avant-garde interior, equipped with an integrated curved screen that houses the latest connectivity technologies.
With diesel, petrol and hybrid variants and Mild Hybrid, maximum efficiency is achieved with the plug-in hybrid version, with which it achieves the environmental label ‘Zero’ from the DGT. The diesel engine can also be combined with Mild Hybrid technology in automatic transmissions, further reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
The new Sportage may have one
automatic dual clutch gearbox with 7 speeds (7DCT). A six-speed manual transmission (MT) is also available and, exclusively for MHEV versions,
the intelligent six-speed manual transmission (IMT). Both the Sportage Hybrid and Sportage Plug-in Hybrid are equipped with a six-speed (6AT) automatic transmission.
A first for the Sportage is the conception of the
Terrain mode, debuting in the fifth-generation SUV. Developed for drivers seeking outdoor adventure and leisure, this driving mode automatically adjusts the Sportage’s settings for optimum driving dynamics in virtually any terrain and environmental condition.
Inside the new Sportage, the quality of the materials and finishes is striking, along with a large amount of space available for the occupants of both the front and rear seats. The Sportage offers 996mm of legroom for second row passengers (955mm in the PHEV version), while rear headroom is 998mm. The luggage compartment reaches 591 l.
On the dashboard there is an integrated 12.3-inch curved screen with a touch screen, as well as air vents reminiscent of the headlights and the exterior grille. The controls are simple and easy to find even on the most basic trim models, which come with a 4.2-inch screen.
Also,
all versions come with a reversing camera and sensors, and the two best equipped have the 360-degree camera included. Hybrids also have an automatic parking function.
The Sportage isn’t the cheapest SUV among its competitors, but its value proposition, seven-year warranty and reliability are strong enough to ensure victory for the Sportage.
