Alpine A110 R, designed for extreme sports enthusiasts and car myth collectors
The new A110 R distinguishes itself from the rest of the models in the Alpine sports range by intensive work to lighten the body, which has reduced the weight to 1,082 kilograms, which is 34 kilograms less compared to the previous A110 S- version. For the first time in the A110 range, some parts, such as the bonnet, rear window and diffuser, have been redesigned and are therefore specific to this version. The chassis, which has undergone a unique tuning, the 300 hp 1.8-litre engine and the racing atmosphere of the interior also contribute to this radical approach, which is designed to make the driving experience more intense than ever.
A technical and aesthetic touch: the diffuser has been redesigned to provide an extremely sporty driving experience and a spectacular appearance. Made of carbon and fiberglass to save weight, it also responds perfectly to the challenges of aerodynamics. Specific carbon side skirts have been integrated into the Alpine A110 R, extending the flat surface outwards. This increased surface area reduces air turbulence along the entire length of the car, limiting underbody disturbances. With a time from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and a weight-to-power ratio that has been reduced to 3.6 kilos per horse, it reaches 1,000 meters from a standstill in just 22 seconds, making it one of the fastest cars in its category. . Alpine A110 R is available to order now, with a limited number of units available. Deliveries will start in spring 2023. Prices for the Alpine A110 R start from 107,000 euros.
Numerous race-inspired elements have been added or changed in the new Alpine A110 R to optimize its handling at high speeds. The rear wing, flat bottom and diffuser have been redesigned, while the carbon rims provide increased stiffness and stability in corners and at high speeds. The wheels of the new A110 R have been designed with a triple aim: to improve the car’s performance through greater lightness, to optimize aerodynamics and to improve brake cooling. The A110 R has significantly higher rear downforce than the A110 S fitted with the aerodynamic kit, with a downforce gain of 29kg at top speed, optimizing balance in high-speed cornering. At the same time, air resistance has been reduced by 5% (in the circuit configuration), allowing it to reach a top speed of 285 km/h. While the sporty character of the new A110 R is reflected in its technical features, the design also contributes to its imposing appearance. The rear window, made entirely of carbon, becomes the focal point of the rear of the car. It replaces the rear window and covers the engine compartment, with the third brake light in the middle.
Inside the Alpine, the monocoque sports seats from Sabelt Track, which are made entirely of carbon fiber, stand out. The driver and passenger seat are equipped with a 6-point safety belt. The interior lining is completely made of microfibre, including the lining of the door panels. The Alpine Telemetrics telemetry system, offered as standard, displays real-time technical data on a variety of graphs, including boost pressure, gearbox temperature, engine torque, horsepower, steering wheel angle and an accelerometer.
The chassis of the new Alpine A110 R has been custom tuned and tuned to deliver unprecedented performance for occasional track use. The adjustable shock absorbers allow the ride height to be lowered an additional 10mm for a full track experience. The specific anti-roll bars are 10% stiffer on the front axle and 25% on the rear axle compared to the A110 S model. The suspension springs provide 10% more stiffness at the front and rear for a high degree of body support. The A110 R is fitted as standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in size 215/40 R18 on the front axle and 245/40 R18 on the rear axle. In combination with the unique chassis, these high-quality tires enable use on both the road and the track. Compared to standard tyres, semi-slick tires offer more stability and control in corners thanks to their reinforced structure, with 15% more grip and greater lateral acceleration.
Like the other versions of the range, the Alpine A110 R offers three adjustable riding modes to enhance driving pleasure: Normal, Sport and Track. Accelerator and engine responsiveness, steering assist sensitivity, gearbox behavior and stability control are adjusted depending on the selected mode. “Normal” mode provides smooth everyday driving with low fuel consumption. The “Sport” mode offers optimized engine and gearbox management for more dynamic and sporty driving: more responsive throttle, targeted idling, quick upshifts. The “Track” mode is optimized for track driving, with faster gear changes via the steering wheel paddles only. This mode includes a special calibration of the stability control.
