The standard comes to modernize mobility with new technologies and contribute to the decarbonisation of transport, responsible for 27% of greenhouse gases in Spain
During this year 2023, the government wants to approve the new sustainable mobility law in parliament, so that it enters into force before the end of the year. This law is
structure on four major pillars: mobility as a right, meeting the challenge of the climate crisis, improving the quality of investment and spending decisions and digitization and support for innovation.
The standard promotes a cleaner and healthier form of travel and is committed to a digital and innovative transport system. Its implementation aims to stimulate the growth of sustainable mobility, in which companies in the sector in general and rentals in particular were immersed.
In concrete terms, companies with more than 500 employees must, according to the new law, draw up sustainable mobility plans at work in which, for example, they
use of public or shared transport, electric vehicles or the bicycle for your daily transport. The standard also aims to strengthen the role of low-emission zones regulated in the Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition and introduced throughout Spain with the arrival of 2023.
The new regulations affect all citizens, but especially employees or companies that carry out their activity in these urban centers. In these cases, the
flexible renting is one of the alternatives to this new mobility that the law describes, by granting access to the public, both professional and private, to electric vehicles, which can circulate in these areas without restrictions, without the need to make an initial financial outlay, without permanence or penalty for cancellation and with all services included in the monthly fee.
Digitization is another key to the law as it includes the creation of the Integrated Mobility Data Space (EDIM), where transport companies, infrastructure managers and administrations will share their data, to use this initiative to inform decision-making related to mobility needs based on the analysis of the information.
In this sense, systems like Northgate Data, from Northgate, are an example of the relevance of information analysis. And it is that this allows its customers to exercise total control to optimize the use of their vehicle and thus achieve the one
greater efficiency in fleet management. With regard to the mechanical part of the vehicle, this tool detects the control panel icons and fault detection codes. It also allows you to create alerts based on driving, detecting speeding or sudden braking, among other things.
Thanks to this tool, better data collection and analysis is encouraged by users who have it, based on access to large amounts of information (big data) and its analysis allows not only more control over the vehicles, but also better decision-making, coordination again with what the new Sustainable Mobility Act proposes, as well as more safety behind the wheel.
Since the law aims to ensure that road safety reaches all levels of society, it also provides for the
introduction of training from the school stage, with content from driver training, coexistence and use of all modes of transport and sustainable mobility in a safe way, up to vocational training or university. The regulation therefore encourages training in sustainable mobility, digitalisation, safety and multimodality of transport, as well as conducting public awareness and awareness campaigns in this area.
