Hyundai explores new experiences with the Ioniq 5, reflecting a commitment to sustainability using environmentally friendly materials

When you open the door of the new Ioniq 5, you think of the futuristic cars we’ve seen in so many movies. With this model you will undoubtedly realize that the future is already here. Hyundai takes a twist in terms of design with this vehicle, but nods to a model from the past, the Hyundai Pony. We should not forget that it was the company’s first production car, which cherishes 45 years of history and stood out for its bold attitude at the time.

The Ioniq 5 sets the benchmark for redefining the electric mobility lifestyle with sustainable and innovative features. Because times change and so do cars, brands have adapted to the new era and are increasingly betting on electric and hybrid cars.

The forward-thinking design of the Ioniq 5 marks a departure from the standards of the past to explore new design freedom on a platform dedicated to battery electric vehicles. This model stands out for its wheelbase of 3,000 mm. This greater distance requires a more refined approach in order not to look too long and to translate these new proportions into a new typology of contemporary electric vehicles.

Every exterior part of the vehicle has been carefully designed. The front features Hyundai’s first shell-shaped bonnet, which minimizes the gaps between the panels for the best aerodynamics. The front bumper is defined by a distinctive V-shape incorporating signature daytime running lights that give the Ioniq 5 an unmistakable light signature.

These small pixelated clusters are also present at the rear of the vehicle.

On the sides, recessed retractable handles provide a clean surface and increased aerodynamic efficiency. The front and rear of the vehicle meet at the doors, another example of Hyundai’s ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design concept, first seen on the new Tucson. The robust shape of the C-pillar, inspired by the ’45’ EV concept car, gives the Ioniq 5 an impressive appearance that is clearly recognizable from a distance.

The aerodynamic wheels reflect the parametric pixel design and are offered at 20 inches in diameter, the largest ever fitted to a Hyundai EV.

The interior is just as amazing as the exterior. Every detail has also been thought of and under the motto ‘free space’ Hyundai has designed an interior that allows more freedom of movement. All this is particularly evident in the Universal Island, a movable center console that can be pushed back by up to 140 mm. The Universal Island, together with the flat floor on which the batteries are stored, provides more freedom of movement in the vehicle.

Many of the interior elements such as seats, headliner, door trim, floors and armrests use ecological materials from sustainable sources, such as recycled PET bottles and plant-based yarns (bio-PET), as well as natural wool yarns, Eco-processed leather with vegetable extracts and organic paint with vegetable extracts, making this model more sustainable and not just for its engine.

The Ioniq 5 seamlessly integrates advanced technologies to enhance the user’s digital experience. The spacious and configurable dual cockpit features a 12-inch full-touch infotainment screen and 12-inch borderless digital instrument panel.

It is also equipped with the next level of Hyundai SmartSense equipment, an advanced driver assistance system that ensures the highest level of safety and comfort while driving. It is the first Hyundai model with Highway Driving Assist 2. Other driver assistance systems include Forward Collision Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Boundary Assist speed control, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assistant, etc.

The Ioniq 5 is available with a wide range of electric drive configurations to meet the mobility needs of any driver without compromising on performance. Customers can choose between two battery options, 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, and two electric motor configurations, either rear motor only or front and rear motors. All these variants offer an exceptional range and offer a top speed of 185 km/h.

At the top of the range is a variant with a 155 kW rear motor and a 70 kW front motor, offering all-wheel drive (AWD). The rear engine generates 350 Nm and the front one can reach 255 Nm. In combination with the 72.6 kWh battery, this setup can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The maximum electric range of the IONIQ 5 on a single charge will exceed 480 km, depending on the type of driving style.
