GLE and the GLE Coupé, the ‘best sellers’ from Mercedes-Benz improved
The Mercedes-Benz GLE and its sporty version, the GLE Coupé, are just as suitable for enjoying leisure time with the family as they are for long-distance trips and transporting loads. The 4Matic system guarantees maximum driving safety even with poor traction or when driving off-road with gradients of up to 100%. With a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons, it is possible to tow a horse trailer, a valuable old-timer or a larger caravan.
Mercedes-Benz has updated the exterior, interior, technology and equipment of the model generation launched in 2018. The updated models will arrive at European dealers from July 2023. The engine range is now fully electrified. It includes a 48-volt mild hybrid system with integrated starter alternator (ISG), as well as fourth-generation plug-in hybrids. The biggest jump in power comes in the GLE 400 e 4Matic, (weighted combined fuel consumption (WLTP): 10.3-9.2 l/100 km, weighted combined CO2 emissions (WLTP): 234-209 g/km , weighted combined energy consumption (WLTP): 27.3-24.7 kWh/100 km), increasing the figure by 30 kW.
Most GLE riders only ride on paved roads or moderately difficult rural terrain. For this reason, Mercedes-Benz has redesigned the ‘Off-road engineering’ package to offer it at a much lower price in the combustion engine versions of the GLE. Components include a skid plate for the underbody and, in combination with the Airmatic air suspension (optional), 30 millimeters more ground clearance.
The “Off-road” mode of the current generation MBUX converts specific instructions such as slope, roll angle, compass and heading angle into an authentic visual experience. In combination with the optional parking package with 360° camera, it offers the ‘transparent bonnet’ function.
When ‘Off-road’ mode is activated, the central display provides a virtual view of what is below the front of the vehicle, including the front wheels and their position. The view is formed thanks to the images collected by the 360° camera. The ‘transparent bonnet’ is very useful: it allows the driver to locate obstacles as well as large stones or deep potholes that may stand in his way. This function also offers advantages when driving on slopes or when changing slopes.
