Volkswagen continues to build an automotive software giant in Europe, this time partnering with one of the world’s largest microprocessor makers.
Qualcomm Technologies provides Cariad, the software company of the Volkswagen Group,
systems on chip (SoC) designed to enable level 4 automated and assisted driving functionsas reported in a joint statement.
Chips from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride product portfolio will be used in all vehicles of the Volkswagen group with the unified Cariad software generation by the middle of the decade.
The CEO of the German consortium,
Herbert Diessexplained in a publication on the social network LinkedIn that Volkswagen will not stop working with Intel, in fact it hopes to extend the “successful” partnership with Mobileye.
Last year, the automotive multinational presented its ‘New Auto’ strategy, which aims to lead the company into a future of autonomous and sustainable mobility.
In the future, it will range from the production and sale of vehicles, through the production of battery cells and the provision of energy services, to the provision of mobility solutions and the development and continuous updating of software.
