Combines a highly dynamic presence on the road with a high-quality driver-focused cab

The new Kia Sportage combines a highly dynamic presence on the road with a high-quality driver-focused interior, now featuring an integrated curved display featuring the latest advancements in connectivity technology. Also noteworthy is boot space and available head and legroom – significantly more than the previous Sportage – with best-in-class legroom for second-row passengers.

The Sportage also debuts a host of innovative technologies. A new-generation electronically controlled suspension ensures optimum comfort and a high level of safety at all times, thanks to continuous real-time damping control. The new Terrain driving mode gives the new Kia SUV excellent capabilities to navigate through the most difficult terrain, such as snow, mud and sand.

On the Sportage’s body, they feature a bold design at the front, with a black grille graphic that highlights details and spans the entire width of the front. The grille combines Kia’s signature ‘tiger nose’ shape with futuristic, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, which in turn contour to the eye-catching Matrix LED headlights, also known as the Intelligent Lighting System. Depending on the equipment and version, the new Sportage can fit alloy wheels with a diameter of 17, 18 or 19 inches.

The cabin is made to combine the most advanced technology with luxurious elements and top quality materials. At the center of the new Sportage’s interior is an integrated curved display, with a touchscreen that extends across the front, giving the interior dramatic breadth and depth. The 12.3-inch (31 cm) touchscreen and integrated controller act as a nerve center for driver and passenger to control connectivity and information functions. The instrument panel, also 12.3-inch, features a state-of-the-art TFT liquid crystal display, which generates highly accurate and clear graphics.

The new Sportage has a wide range of powertrains, including state-of-the-art hybrid electric technologies, as well as petrol or diesel engines. In the case of the HEV hybrid, the battery is located under the second row seats, so legroom is the same as that of the combustion-engine Sportage.

The PHEV plug-in hybrid Sportage mounts the 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol engine, in addition to a 66.9 kW electric drive and a 13.8 kWh battery. The combination of these two engines generates a total system power of 265 hp, with 180 hp coming from the combustion engine. The hybrid HEV model also benefits from the 180 PS 1.6-litre T-GDI engine, combined with a 44.2 kW electric motor and a 1.49 kWh battery. The total system power is 230 hp. The new 1.6-litre T-GDI engine is also available on the new Sportage range with a Mild Hybrid Vehicle (MHEV) system developed to reduce emissions and optimize fuel consumption. It stands out for its great efficiency and sporty response, with two power variants of 150 hp or 180 hp.

The new Sportage range also includes a 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine, available in 115 or 136 hp versions. With active emission control technologies, the diesel engine reduces pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, NOx and particulate matter. The 136 hp turbo diesel version is also available with MHEV hybrid electrification technology, which further reduces emissions and fuel consumption. The 1.6 T-GDI engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is also available with a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.6-litre turbo diesel variants, with or without additional MHEV hybrid technology, can be mated to an intelligent six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Sportage’s new electronically controlled suspension offers a higher level of safety at all times thanks to real-time, continuous damping control. An electronically controlled four-wheel drive system ensures optimum power distribution between the front and rear wheels, depending on road conditions and traffic situations. This not only improves performance, it also increases safety.

The new Sportage has several structural systems and safety features, such as the driver airbag, passenger airbag, side curtains, center front seats and low sides. As part of the Drive Wise safety system, the new Sportage features collision avoidance assistance with a cornering function. This device helps to avoid collisions with oncoming traffic when turning left at intersections.

Navigation-based intelligent cruise control helps to drive at a safe speed on the highway, using real-time navigation data. By extending the range of the system even further, it is able to automatically reduce speed before reaching a deviation or a bend. Immediately returning to the highway, the controller resets the selected speed limit. The new Sportage also features Intelligent Speed Limiting technology, which warns if the car exceeds the speed limit.

When blinking to change lanes, if there is a risk of a collision with an oncoming vehicle, a new Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system warns the driver. If, after that warning, the risk of a collision increases, the system actively steers the car to help avoid it; it is also active in situations such as parallel parking maneuvers, to avoid a possible rear-end collision when reversing.
