The President of the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac), Wayne Griffiths, has highlighted the need to adopt a new fiscal framework and expand the network of charging points as the main challenges facing the automotive sector in Spain. is confronted.

In an interview presented to Global Mobility Call, the congress organized by Ifema Madrid starting this Wednesday, Griffiths indicated that it is necessary to launch a network of public charging points with sufficient capacity and quantity to allow the user to be able to charge at any time. to supply. In addition, he considers it “critical” to facilitate the purchase of vehicles with “more efficient and simpler” support plans, for which he has called for a positive tax scheme that encourages this offer.

Griffiths has pointed out that the new mobility model should preserve the employment, industrial and economic values ​​that the car industry has traditionally contributed to Spain.

On the other hand, the also chairman of Seat has emphasized the positive elements that the sector currently has, such as the commitment to bring new electric vehicles to the market and to have a single and agreed strategy for the low-carbon mobility model for Spain.

When asked when the auto industry will be fully sustainable, Griffiths assured that they are working towards reaching the target of zero emissions by 2050. “Clearly we are facing a transition that will take the next two decades.” said Griffiths.

In this sense, Anfac’s chairman has valued the role of the ‘Next Generation’ funds as a tool to promote the transformation of the sector and remain competitive in this new mobility industry.

Global Mobility Call, which will serve as a platform to learn more about the new proposals of the data ecosystem, mobility and transport models, will start tomorrow at the Ifema fairgrounds in Madrid. This congress will host multi-sectoral and cross-cutting debates, with more than 100 speakers and discussion tables, organized in a large hall and five thematic forums, bringing together more than 300 experts.

Global Mobility Call was created with the aim of promoting growth and creating new business models with the participation of European public-private partnership projects.

The Technology, Data and Innovation Forum will reveal how digital technology, data analytics, the development of new infrastructures and energies enable the development of new mobility services for people and goods with a citizen orientation, while impacting the environment.

The New Urban Planning Forum will show how the new urban planning models help to configure spaces for the coexistence of citizens in urban, metropolitan and rural areas in a way that is more respectful of their natural environment while meeting everyday mobility needs. of their inhabitants.

The Economic Development and Regulatory Forum will enable the discovery of new business opportunities based on the interrelationship of the various economic, institutional, academic and social actors that make up the sustainable mobility ecosystem and the transformation of value chains that enable to meet expectations of economic growth globally sustainable in the medium and long term.

In the Sustainable Transport Forum for people and goods, public-private partnership initiatives for multimodal and intermodal transport of people and goods are presented for more efficient and environmentally friendly mobility, in an environment of continuous growth and complexity of logistics flows and travel.

Finally, the Future Society Forum aims to create a new, more inclusive, sustainable and connected society under the 2030 Agenda by promoting mobility habits, ownership of means of transport and the influence of ‘e-commerce’ on consumer decisions .
