Twitter are related to electric vehicles, with Tweet volume increasing by 31% year-over-year worldwide, fueled by people’s interest in commenting, researching and exchanging opinions on the latest developments. This trend is also a reality in our country: conversations about electric cars increased by 21% last year compared to 2020.

According to a survey conducted by the company, 77% of car enthusiasts on Twitter believe that the platform allows them to share their knowledge with others and feel part of a community that allows them to discover and share their interests. In addition, 20% of Twitter users want to be the first to know what’s new in the automotive industry and on the platform they can access this information in real time.

In addition to call volumes, Twitter users are market-conscious and influential. Nearly 3 in 4 Twitter users in Spain say they plan to start the conversation and are considering buying an electric/hybrid car in the coming months.

The main advantage they emphasize for having an electric/hybrid car is greater respect for the environment (58%), which is the majority option among the over-45s, while those in the younger age (between 15 and 34 years) point to the advantage of subsidies or purchase support (31%). They also point out that this type of vehicle makes less noise than combustion engines (50%) and for a small part of the population (6.5%), style or status is an advantage when purchasing.

However, there are also discussions on Twitter about the thresholds for buying an electric car. The main limitation is cost (56%), especially for people over 45 years old, followed by the scarcity of charging stations (53%) and autonomy (45%). The latter is one of the biggest drawbacks for people between the ages of 35-44 on the platform.

People on Twitter are passionate about cars and are constantly coming to the platform to talk about it. It is not without reason that more than 119 million Automotive-related Tweets were generated worldwide in 2021. As for the demographic profile of car enthusiasts on Twitter, nearly 60% are under the age of 35. And while most are men, women already make up a third of the conversation on Twitter.
