Home charging and exchangeable batteries: two solutions for electric cars

Date:

One of the biggest challenges of electric mobility is the reduced supply of charging points across the country

The electric car is one of the most important mobility bets of the future, although in countries like Spain it is necessary to expand the public charging infrastructure, especially to be able to cover long distances. Another disadvantage is that a large part of the existing park parks on the street, which means that the owners do not have the option to place a charger in the garage. While it is a solution to reduce pollution from combustion vehicles, it also comes at the expense of installing a charger at home.

To solve this situation, the Italian company XEV has presented YOYO, the adaptable electric car, which is postulated as a solution for both urban and peripheral mobility. One of its main features is that it can be charged with a conventional plug, the same one that charges a mobile phone or connects an iron.

This function allows charging anywhere, without having to install a charging point at home, which represents an improvement and, above all, a saving on the maintenance and running costs of the vehicle. Unlike other electric car models where charging from a household outlet means long hours, charging the batteries from 0 to 80% in a conventional outlet in the YOYO takes just four hours.

Another challenge of electric mobility is to reduce the charging time. YOYO also offers exchangeable batteries for this. This system is based on the alternative exchange of empty batteries for fully charged batteries via urban stations or via a mobile service that does it manually, eliminating the long waiting times for charging.

The car’s power system is 10.3 kWh and consists of three batteries of 25 kilograms each, which are easily accessible from the rear of the car. Changing them can be done in just a few minutes, giving the driver maximum freedom.

Although it is not yet possible to replace batteries in Spain, in Italy XEV has already reached an agreement with the operator of the service station Eni to implement the technology for battery replacement and also to manage their life cycle. including recycling.
