With 60 available, Xiaomi, Apple, Sony or the Chinese giant BYD are expected to join
Spanish customers can now choose from 60 different brands, 20% more than five years ago, when it was still 50. According to
sumautothat vertically integrates the Autoscout24 and Autocasión portals, there are a total of 13 manufacturers who did not sell a single model in our country 5 years ago, leaving a positive balance of 10.
Of these, about 80% come from Asia, seven in ten are purely electric and 85% contain electrified versions (such as Cupra or Lynk & Co), based on data collected by Anfac. Aiways, Green Tour, JAC, LEVC, Maxus, Zhidou, MG or Polestar, among others, sign a new panorama for the consumer, with more offer than ever to choose from in the market, thus boosting electric sales.
In fact, MSI’s forecasts for Sumauto foresee a 29% growth in registrations of these brands for this year, to 30,000 units sold and to 40,000 in 2023.
In addition, the gigantic BYD, the manufacturer with the most emission-free vehicle registrations in the world, will come in the coming years. He is joined by the American Lucid Motors and the Vietnamese Vinfast. In the future, mobility projects from Apple, Xiaomi or Sony are also expected.
According to the CEO of Sumauto,
Nicholas Cantaert“The advent of the electric car has led to a foray by new manufacturers at a turning point for mobility, due to the economic constraints and uncertainties we are experiencing.
An outburst led by new brands that show great ease in gaining visibility online and quickly developing quality models against renowned manufacturers who come from combustion and do not want to be left behind in the electromobility race.”
This introduction of new brands is due to the fact that the cost of developing an electric car is simpler than that of an internal combustion engine car, which, together with the rapid fall in the cost of batteries, makes it easier to power needed for profitable production.
This simplicity allows manufacturers to more easily and quickly find their brand identity and thus differentiate their models from the competition. In addition, Brussels’ ban on the sale of combustion cars from 2035 puts this great electric landing at the right time.
