Allen Weisselberg, Trump’s chief financial officer (CFO), pleaded guilty this Thursday in a court in Manhattan, New York, to charges of tax fraud under a plea deal with the district attorney in exchange for testifying against the Trump administration. organization as part of the ongoing investigation into a fraud plan.

The organization’s CFO for five decades and one of Trump’s most trusted executives, was charged with 15 crimes of tax fraud for failing to pay taxes. During his appearance at the trial, Weisselberg stated before Judge Juan Merchan that he had been a criminal 15 times for the charges he was charged with.

The former Trump aide will serve 5 months in prison and 5 years of probation. In addition, he will have to pay the nearly $2 million he owes in taxes.

Weisselberg admitted to the tax evasion scheme for 15 years on a total income of $1.76 million and in-kind payments such as the use of a luxury apartment, two high-end vehicles, furniture renovation and the payment of their grandchildren’s tuition in excluding schools.

Weisselberg, 75, will serve his sentence at New York’s infamous Rikers Island Prison, which is known for violence and mistreatment of inmates. His agreement with the prosecution further complicates the legal problems of the former president, whose company faces similar charges for illegal business practices in a trial set to be held in October, though he has declined to testify against the tycoon.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated that Weisselberg used his position in the Trump Organization to defraud taxpayers and enrich himself. Weisselberg’s plea deal directly implicates the Trump organization in a wide variety of criminal activities.

According to prosecutor Bragg, Weisselberg’s testimony will be extremely valuable in proving the case in court against the Trump Organization in the upcoming trial against the company.

Weisselberg began working as an accountant for Trump’s father, Fred Trump, in 1973, and no one outside the Trump family remembers his dealings. The ex-wife of Allen Weisselberg’s son, Jennifer Weisselberg, described the relationship between the two as that of “Batman and Robin” in an interview for “The New York Times.”

Weisselberg was arrested in July 2021. Weisselberg’s guilty plea adds to the long string of legal issues surrounding the former president at the moment.

Meanwhile, a Florida court prepares to hear arguments over whether or not to disclose the affidavit (secrecy) that justified the FBI’s search for Mar-a-Lago.
