Dramatic scenes after the strong wind gusts and the storm in the Styrian Murtal: 63 people had to be evacuated. 25 of them – including five small children – were rescued by helicopter from the alpine emergency. Three dogs were also flown out.
The violent storm broke a large number of trees in the Murtal. As a result, the access road to Ingeringsee was moved a few kilometers away. A driver was trapped in her car and called 911.
Because it was not clear how many hikers there were still in the area and so in an alpine emergency, the police helicopter Libelle and the rescue helicopter Christophorus 99 flew over the area.
The teams were able to fly 25 people, including five children, and three dogs with the Dragonfly!
More people liberated by firefighters
Another 34 people were trapped in the Reicherhube area. The road to this area was cleared by the Bischofffeld fire brigade. The fire brigade then transported the 34 people to their own arsenal.
Four forest workers managed to get to safety independently from the danger zone in the Ingeringgraben via hiking trails.
Fortunately, all 63 people who were evacuated were unharmed.
