Two dead and dozens injured are the result of a severe storm wave that hit Italy on Thursday. Tuscany and Veneto, which had declared a state of emergency, were especially affected. As a result, immediate measures can be taken for those affected. There was also significant damage in the neighboring region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and in Emilia-Romagna in Carinthia.

The victims in Tuscany are a 54-year-old farmer who was hit by a tree near the Tuscan city of Lucca, authorities said. Any help came too late for him.

Woman (60) hit by falling tree
The second victim is a 60-year-old woman who was also fatally injured on Thursday by a falling tree in a park in the city of Avenza near Carrara. In Pistoia, a tree fell on a truck, injuring the 34-year-old driver, who had to be pulled from the wreckage of the truck.

Freed from caravan
Another four people staying at a campsite in the Tuscan resort of Marina di Massa were injured by falling trees. A fourth person had to be freed from a trailer that had fallen on a tree.

In Florence, uprooted trees caused damage in several parts of the city. The winds reached speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour, the president of Tuscany Eugenio Giani reported. For safety reasons, the famous Renaissance Boboli Gardens in Florence, a popular tourist attraction, had to be closed. The parks in Milan were also closed for safety reasons.

In the municipality of Luni, in the region of Liguria, the storm caused power outages and beach huts were thrown onto the rail network in the Tigullio resort area of ​​Liguria. Locally, trains failed in the regions of Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. In Emilia-Romagna, roofs were blown off and cranes fell.

The high-wind storm that hit Friuli Venezia Giulia caused firefighters to receive more than 400 calls, with roofs blown off, trees toppled and utility poles falling on buildings or cars. There were no injuries. A damaged boat at sea had to be rescued off the coast of Sistiana near Trieste.

The fires are raging in southern Italy. Due to a major fire on the island of Pantelleria between Sicily and Tunisia, several villas have been evacuated, including that of fashion designer Giorgio Armani. Fires also raged in a nature reserve near the Sicilian city of Trapani.
