The Vienna police arrested a 50-year-old at his workplace on Friday, who allegedly assaulted and threatened his wife for years. As the state police directorate announced on Saturday, the 53-year-old had turned to police and asked for help after having suffered physical assaults, aggression and threats from the man for 15 years.
He had assaulted her and threatened to kill her in the days immediately before. The officers who visited the woman found several injuries that could be seen from the outside. When asked about it, she said her husband kept getting angry because of his drinking. “Because of the credible descriptions of the woman, an arrest warrant has been issued after consultation with the public prosecutor,” said police spokesman Christopher Verhnjak.
Entry and approach ban
The arrest warrant was carried out at the native Hungarian’s workplace in central Vienna. The man did not confess when he was first questioned. A provisional firearms ban and an entry and approach ban have been issued against the 50-year-old.
The Vienna Police is the point of contact for every victim of violence and does not tolerate any form of violence. The police emergency number (133) can be reached at all times for people who perceive violence or are affected by violence. The women’s 24-hour emergency phone (01/71719) and the women’s shelter emergency phone of the Vienna Women’s Shelters Association (05 77 22) are also manned around the clock. The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Service, Crime Prevention, also offers advice via the hotline 0800/216346.
