On Tuesday morning, climate activists from the “last generation” and also from the last existing Lobau camp disrupted an opening ceremony of the newly renovated Vienna Praterstern. During a speech by the Viennese alderman Ulrike Sima (SPÖ), a total of twelve people stormed the square to draw attention to the current climate debate.
A protester is said to have harassed the councilor – after which she said “please get away from me”, as seen on video recordings (see above).
The police were already there and fixed the problem. Two protesters were taken away by officers after reinforcements were ordered.
Due to the promotion, the new water fountain, which would be part of the opening, could not be turned on for the time being.
