Eustat data on rural and tourist accommodation in the CAV in July 2022

Registrations and overnight stays registered in July 2022 in rural accommodation increased by 27.7% and 19.6% respectively compared to July 2021. Registrations in tourist apartments increased by 76.7% and overnight stays by 54.8%.

As with hotels yesterday, Eustat has today published data corresponding to rural establishments and tourist apartments, data confirming the recovery of tourism in the Basque Autonomous Community, as these establishments surpassed the figures for arrivals in July of a year ago, with increases of 27.7% and 76.7% respectively, and the numbers also improved compared to July 2019, pre-pandemic, with increases of 13.5% and 74.2% in each case.

In the rural accommodation They have registered 24,385 entries (each of the persons who spend one or more consecutive nights in the same accommodation), a 27.7% more than a year ago and 13.5% more than in July 2019 (2,914 more travelers than before the pandemic).

Concerning the overnight stays, that is, every night a traveler stays at the establishment, in total 72,040what does that mean 19.6% more than in July 2021 and in absolute numbers 7,578 more overnight stays than in the same month of 2019.

The average stay in rural accommodation was therefore 2.95 days during this July, less than the 3.15 days observed in the same month of 2021. The average stay is calculated as the ratio between overnight stays and the number of entries.

The occupancy rate was 48.7% measured by places and 53.1% by rooms, up 5.1 and 6 percentage points from a year ago.

In the tourist apartments the tickets counted last month were 19,070what does that mean year-on-year increase of 76.7%, and 74.2% more than in 2019 (8126 more travelers). The overnight stays also they grew compared to a year ago 54.8%with a total of 60 449; 20,813 more than before covid.

The average stay was in this type of establishment 3.17 days in the month of July 2022, also lower than that obtained in July 2021, when it was 3.62 days.

The occupancy rate reached by beds in tourist apartments in the Basque Country 45.8%an increase of 10 percentage points compared to July 2021. Measured by apartments, the occupancy rate registered an increase of 12.3 percentage points and stood at 62.6%.

Origin and destinations

In the rural accommodationthe 70.4% of travelers has been in July nationals, a total of 17,173 people, up 1.5%, while foreigners reached 7,212, 229.8% more than a year ago when there were restrictions on mobility between countries.

Gipuzkoa concentrated the largest number of visitors in rural accommodation with 11,203 admissions, 12.6% more, followed by Bizkaia with 9,085 and an increase of 53% compared to July 2021 and Álava with 4,097 admissions and an increase of 27.3%.

In the tourist apartmentsthe visitors from state origin they added 10,675, a 28.6% more than a year ago, and foreign were 8394, a 237% more.

By province, there were 11,992 registrations in tourist apartments in Bizkaia, 109.1% more than in July 2021, in Gipuzkoa there were 5,391 with an increase of 33.5% and in Álava 1,687 and an increase of 65.3%. The number of overnight stays also increased in the three provinces, 85.5% more in Bizkaia, 35.6% in Gipuzkoa and 30.6% in Álava.
