After a journey of about five months, 17-year-old Mack Rutherford aims to complete his solo round-the-world flight in Bulgaria on Wednesday – becoming the youngest pilot in the record books.
The teenager with a Belgian-British passport took off in his microlight on March 23 in his microlight from the small Radomir airport near the Bulgarian capital Sofia and landed at the same spot with his plane more than 54,000 kilometers.

He was accompanied only by a small plush bear. Rutherford comes from a family of pilots and flew an airplane for the first time at the age of seven. Successfully completing his journey, he would break last year’s solo record of 18-year-old Briton Travis Ludlow.
Rutherford is also following in the footsteps of his older sister Zara, who at age 19 became the youngest woman to fly alone around the world.
