After heavy rainfall last Friday, elevated germ levels were observed in some bathing areas on the Vorarlberg shore of Lake Constance. A bathing ban was imposed in the Hard Interior because the limit values set in the Bathing Water Ordinance were clearly exceeded. A limit value was not reached at three seaside resorts in Bregenz, the state said.
Due to the relatively small exceedance of the limit value, no restrictions are currently necessary in Bregenz (military baths, sports harbour, Wocherhafen). In Hard, the bath ban will remain in effect until germ levels allow it again, it said. Due to the dry and sunny weather, a rapid improvement in bathing water quality can be expected in the coming days.
Other bathing areas are not affected
In other seaside resorts (Strandbad Lochau, Strandbad Bregenz, Seecamping, FKK Hard, Hörnledamm Fussach, Rohrspitz Fussach) the influence of the flooding was barely noticeable. They also showed good or excellent swimming fitness.
Due to the heavy rainfall, the watercourses of Vorarlberg and Lake Constance were strongly swollen on Friday. The high discharges led to flooding of the banks and a diffuse supply of substances. Soil material, nutrients and germs were also washed away. The environmental institute Vorarlberg took water samples on Saturday to determine the swimming quality.
