In the six months that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has lasted, “it has changed the world, history and our country,” the Ukrainian president said on Wednesday. Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a video on the occasion of the celebration of Ukraine Independence Daycommemorating its 31st anniversary, the president has also referred to the invasion that the country is undergoing, which marks today six months.
“Six months ago, Russia declared war on us. On February 24, all of Ukraine heard explosions and shots,” he said.
“On February 24, they said to us: You have no chance. But on August 24, we say: Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!” Zelensky added.
For the politician: in these six months we have changed history, the world and we have changed ourselves. Now we know for sure who is our brother and friend, and who is not even an acquaintance.
As he pointed out, “the whole world has discovered who the Ukrainians are… No one else will say about Ukraine: it is somewhere, close to Russia.”
“We didn’t have HIMARS (high-capacity missile systems) yet, but there were people who were ready to stop tanks with their bare hands. They weren’t ready to close the sky (with an air shield), but we had people who were ready were to close (defend) their homeland to themselves,” he added.
In addition, in his opinion, Ukraine has succeeded in “reviving the entire continent. Europe is going to the squares. Europe is introducing harsh sanctions. Europe unanimously recognizes that Ukraine is a future member of the European Union“.
It’s Independence Day in Ukraine, yes, but no parties or mass events have been organized for fear. In addition, the government has once again recommended that its citizens flee Ukraine because of the possibility of an attack by the Russian army.
