The price average electricity for regulated tariff customers linked to the wholesale market will fall East Thursday a 12.4%making it different from the maximums recorded over the past two days, although it remains above the level of 380 euros per megawatt hour (MWh).
Specifically, the price will be in the €382.11/MWh54.14 euros lower than the 436.25 euros/MWh it marked for this Wednesday, the highest level since the gas cap came into effect in mid-June, according to preliminary data from Market Operator Iberian Energy (OMIE) collected by Europe Press.
In the auction, the average price of electricity on the wholesale market – the so-called ‘pool’ – for this Thursday was set at 161.88 euros/MWh. The maximum price will be registered between 22:00 and 23:00, at 209.26 euros/MWh, while the minimum for the day, of 133.1 euros/MWh, will be between 17:00 and 18:00.
To this price of the ‘pool’ is added the fee of 220.23 euros/MWh for combined cycle installations for the application of the ‘Iberian exception’ to limit the price of gas for electricity generation.
This increase in electricity prices in recent days has been driven by natural gas prices at record levels, mainly driven by Gazprom’s announcement that it will stop pumping gas for three days from August 31.
Without the ‘Iberian exception mechanism’ to cap the price of gas for electricity generation, the price of electricity in Spain would average around EUR 463.98/MWh, which is approximately EUR 81.8/MWh more than with the customer compensation of the regulated rate, which therefore pays an average of 17.6% less.
