For two months, a hunter has been tending a young deer in his garden in Lohnsburg am Kobernausserwald in Upper Austria, whose front leg has been mowed during the hay harvest in mid-June. Together with his friend Alois Litzlbauer, he had searched the mown meadows for injured young animals. Litzlbauer discovered the badly injured fawn. The men took it to the vet.
It took a lot of effort to save the deer, Litzlbauer says. The milk bottle was still needed and the wound had to be treated. But the effort was “rewarded”, “Mimi” now hops around on three legs.
The animal remains permanently in the hunter’s large yard, as it has little chance of surviving in the wild.
