Fatal swimming accident on Friday at Lake Millstatt in Carinthia: Divers were only able to retrieve the body of a 46-year-old holidaymaker from Germany from the bottom of the lake.
A tragic swimming accident occurred in the vicinity of the castle villa on Lake Millstätter See on Friday afternoon. A 46-year-old holiday guest from Germany stood there about 100 feet from the shore with a stand-up paddleboard.
Attempts at CPR Failed
“According to several witnesses, he fell into the water around 2:40 PM for no apparent reason and immediately went under,” police said. “The immediately alerted rescuers and divers were not able to rescue the man from a depth of about 34 meters until around 3:20 pm.” CPR attempts were also unsuccessful.
The Millstatt fire brigade with boat and the Olsach-Molzbichl fire brigade, the Red Cross, the water rescue Millstatt, Döbriach, Ferndorf and the police helicopter were deployed.
