A man with five stab wounds was found dead on Wednesday in an apartment building in the Parsch district of Salzburg. An autopsy has revealed that “the man from Salzburg died of stab wounds,” a police spokeswoman said on Thursday. A 33-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The suspect had called the police around 6:30 a.m. and stated that he had suffered a facial injury as a result of a knife attack. On the way to the apartment, a police patrol found an injured person – apparently an acquaintance of the caller – in the hallway.
Shortly afterwards, an emergency doctor was only able to determine the death of the 33-year-old from Salzburg, the spokeswoman said. The deceased had stab wounds. “A murder weapon has been secured.”
Suspect has been arrested
The suspect, who was injured in the face, has been placed under medical treatment. “His information did not match the situation at the crime scene,” the police spokeswoman said. The 33-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder on the orders of the public prosecutor of Salzburg.
The background of the crime is not yet known, the National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating. The suspect will be questioned Thursday morning.
