Russians withdrawing? – Ukraine reports front break in the south

Date:

A large-scale offensive by the Ukrainian army in the south of the country appears to have been successful. On Monday, a spokeswoman for the armed forces reported that Russian front lines had been breached in the Kherson region.

“Ukraine’s armed forces have launched offensive actions in many parts of southern Ukraine,” Hromadske said, citing press secretary of the southern group of the Ukrainian army, Nataliya Humenyuk.

Accordingly, units of the Donetsk separatists and supporting Russian naval infantry would have been forced to withdraw. More precise locations were not given. However, the information could not be independently verified.

Inspection team on its way to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant
Meanwhile, after weeks of arguing, an international group of experts from the Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was able to leave for the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine. The facility, occupied by Russian troops since March, has been repeatedly shelled. Ukraine and Russia accuse each other of responsibility.

“We must ensure the safety of the largest Ukrainian and European nuclear facility,” International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi wrote on Twitter on Monday. The international community fears a possible nuclear accident. Two reactors went into emergency shutdown last week because the power supply was interrupted.
