Units Undermanned – London: Supply Problems with Russians in Southern Ukraine

Date:

According to British military experts, the Russian occupiers around the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson continue to suffer from personnel and supply problems, despite significant reinforcements. This is evident from the daily update of the Ministry of Defense intelligence on the war in Ukraine, which was released on Tuesday.

Whether the Russians can withstand the recently launched Ukrainian counter-offensive in the region depends largely on the success of a reorganization of the invasion forces, the defense ministry said in a statement in London.

“Since early August, Russia has made significant efforts to bolster its forces on the western bank of the Dnipro (Dnieper) River around Kherson,” the tweet read (see tweet below). The units in the south were probably supplemented with components from the east.

Fragile supply lines around Kherson
The British Ministry of Defense reports that this indicates a fundamental reorganization of the command structures. However, most units around Kherson remain understaffed and rely on vulnerable supply lines via ferry and pontoon bridges.

Heavy fighting broke out in the region
According to information from Kiev, “heavy fighting” has broken out in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian region of Kherson. There were “strong explosions all day and all night,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office said Tuesday. “Almost the entire area” of the Kherson region was affected, it said.

The Ukrainian army launched a counter-offensive on Monday to retake the region. The British Ministry of Defense said in a security statement that the “scale of the Ukrainian advance” could not be confirmed. However, the Ukrainian military has “increased artillery fire on front sections across southern Ukraine” to disrupt Russian supply lines with “long-range precision strikes”.

Moscow accuses London of disinformation
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in late February, the British government has regularly published intelligence on progress. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
