After the summer break, the ArcelorMittal plant in Sestao (ACB) has not resumed operation and will continue to shut down for the time being due to adverse market conditions, company management sources report.
The steel mill, which uses electrical energy to produce steel, employs 278 people. It shut down for the summer holidays, and work is said to have started this week for the September start-up.
“However, adverse market conditions mean it is not profitable to restart production at this time,” the company’s sources explain.
The market is being affected by falling demand for steel, in anticipation of an economic crisis and steel imports from outside the European Union. Added to this is the high cost of the price of electricity in a power station that works with electricity.
Last year, the Sestao ACB had to apply an ERTE and had been stopped for months, from December 7 to last March.
