Lipstick boom after masks in France

Date:

After the mask requirement was largely abolished in France, lipstick sales rose 35 percent in the first week, the Paris market research firm NPD said. Total sales of lip care products increased by 30 percent, makeup products by eight percent – and consumers were even more likely to buy toothpaste.

“The end of the mask need has given lip care a real boost. Many consumers have even celebrated their newfound freedom by buying a new lipstick,” says NPD beauty expert Mathilde Lion.

Since mid-March, masks have only been mandatory in France on public transport and for visitors to nursing homes and clinics.

Toothpaste and chewing gum are also popular again
As the newspaper “Le Figaro” reported, lipstick sales in supermarkets actually increased by 70 percent. Previously, the mask requirement and working from home would have caused lipstick sales to fall by two-thirds compared to 2019. By the way, sales of chewing gum and toothpaste have also increased, but not to the same extent.
