The incomprehensible bloody act that took the life of a 32-year-old mother of three children in Bludenz (Vorarlberg) on Tuesday evening caused a lot of grief in Vorarlberg. Politicians are also affected by the horrific event in which the victim’s divorced husband was arrested.
Sandra Schoch, deputy speaker of the state parliament in Vorarlberg and spokeswoman for the Green Women, reacted with dismay at the murder of a 32-year-old woman in Bludenz. “It is more than alarming that we are already registering the 26th femicide of the year at the end of August.”
Funding for anti-violence projects
“We finally need a broad awareness of the problem, the municipalities can do an important part of the awareness work and must be involved in the financing of low-threshold violence protection projects,” Schoch demands in a broadcast.
ÖSV regional councilor Martina Rüscher, who is also regional director of “Wir Frauen VVP”, and Vorarlberg’s ÖVP women’s spokeswoman Gabriele Graf were deeply affected by the bloody act in Bludenz. “We are shocked that actions like this keep happening in Vorarlberg. One femicide is one too many! Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this time.”
Further evaluation needed
For Graf, this law is also an opportunity to check the effectiveness of the existing preventive measures in the country: “There are several contact points that offer help to women in danger, but also to violent men. However, I wonder whether these offers are known and used by the population and if so, whether they have the desired effect,” Graf sees the need for an immediate evaluation.
