The unemployment grew in August in Euskadi in 2564 peoplea 2.31%to stand at 113,758 unemployed, what break the downward trend of recent months, according to the data registered with the Basque Public Employment Service Lanbide. Compared to August 2021, there are 8,502 fewer unemployed, so year-on-year decline of 6.95%.
In the Basque Country, the total number of people associates Social Security stands at 969,294 people, after a reduction of 12,727 people compared to July, which amounts to a 1.30% drop. Compared to the same month of last year, there are 16,173 more subscribers, an increase of 1.70%.

The Deputy Minister of Employment and Inclusion of the Basque Government, Alfonso Gurpegui, has acknowledged that the rise in unemployment is “always bad news”, but has assured that the unemployment data recorded in Euskadi in August “is not precursors of any trend”. He explained in a note that unemployment is rising “historically” in August and that this summer rise even happened in 2007, when the Basque Country had “technical unemployment figures” for which he has called for a “complete reading” of the data.
Gurpegui has pointed to the “great capacity to resist and restore employment” that Euskadi has shown “despite the pandemic, supply difficulties, energy prices and the war in Ukraine”. According to him, this was possible “thanks to the measures taken by the governments and the social dialogue and the agreement between companies and workers”. “It’s the route we want to step up from this month,” he added.

In Navarra the data is positive, as the unemployment rate in the Autonomous Community fell by 479 people in August, 1.52% compared to July. Today there are 30,961 people on the unemployment list, 3,092 people (9.08%) less than in August 2021.
The membership has social security descended during the month of August in Navarre at 894 people, a 0.30%to 300,156. In comparison with the affiliation of a year ago, the number of employees registered with the social security in the Autonomous Community has grown by 6,067 people, 2.06%.
