After a long vacation in Croatia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is back from vacation – and the politician is almost unrecognizable. In a Hawaiian shirt and with a full white beard, he explained to his followers: “The bell rang” – announcing that the seriousness of (political) life was starting for him again.
The prime minister looks visibly recovered after his three and a half week hiatus. He was traveling in the island world of Dalmatia. Orban did not post any holiday photos himself, but you could follow the head of government a bit through other social media accounts during this time.
Because restaurant owners in the Southern Croatia region and a travel companion insisted on posting selfies with Orban on Instagram and Facebook. One shows the Premier’s brightly colored Hawaiian shirt in all its glory.
Orban had to be “rescued” in the bay on Vis
An almost dramatic incident during Orban’s vacation in a bay on the island of Vis was also reported on a Croatian news site. “His dinghy broke, so I took him, his wife and his bodyguard to shore. They were in a good mood. I recommended them to Mr. Jankov, also known as Beba, in whose restaurant they ate seafood,” said the ‘savior’ of the Prime Minister against Slobodna Dalmacija.
It can be assumed that Orban was only too happy that the holiday photos were “leaked” via social media so that he could appear approachable via the private recordings. Apparently, the politician also urgently needed the holiday: his plans to get even more natural gas from Russia have been causing a stir in the EU lately. During a visit to Vienna at the end of July, the head of government was greeted with protest. No wonder he needed this break. Hungarian newspaper Blikk quoted an insider as saying: “He was tired, exhausted and needed a longer rest.”
