An international drug dealer was arrested Friday at Milan’s Malpensa airport. Border police discovered 13 kilos of cocaine in a motorized wheelchair with the help of a drug detection dog (see video). The drugs were hidden in the leather upholstery.
A 30-year-old Spaniard, from the Dominican Republic, pretended to be disabled to receive special care from airport staff and avoid checks, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported.
But the drug dealer’s plan backfired. Because: sniffer dog “Crai”, who belongs to the police dog unit at Milan airport, smelled the drug that was hidden in the electric wheelchair. The fake disabled person was immediately arrested.
Street value of 1.4 million euros
According to the Italian police, drug couriers from the Dominican Republic like to use the route via Milan for deliveries to Europe. According to the Guardia di Finanza, the cocaine seized in Milan has a street value of about 1.4 million euros.
