A serious industrial accident occurred in the municipality of Höchst in Vorarlberg on Friday afternoon. A 22-year-old’s leg was trapped under a heavy punch roller. The reason for the incident in which the young man was seriously injured: a fatal mix-up.
On Friday, around 2:35 p.m., a 22-year-old man in a company in Höchst was moving mold rolls of about one ton with a small crane. While he was lifting one of these rolls with the crane, two other workers removed the pallet from under the roll. After that, the roll should have been temporarily stored in a socket next to the die-cutting machine for later feeding into the machine.
fatal confusion
During this process, however, the young man confused the “lift button” with the “drop button” on the crane’s mobile controls. The roll then suddenly fell to the floor, then tipped over and wedged the 22-year-old’s leg under the punched roll. A worker immediately ran to the crane and used the crane’s mobile operator to pull up the roller so that two other workers could pull the accident victim out from under the roller.
With blue lights to Bregenz
The seriously injured 22-year-old had to be taken to the state hospital in Bregenz after first aid by the alarmed rescue service.
