A 46-year-old hiker was trapped under a boulder in the area of the Mölltaler Glacier for hours on Sunday.
The man and his wife were about to descend from the summit of Schareck (3123 meters above sea level). During the descent, the German supported himself on a boulder. It moved suddenly, slipped and pinned the walker in a row. His wife and two other walkers rushed to help and tried to push the 1,000-pound stone away, but to no avail. An emergency call has been made.
The fire brigade, mountain rescuers, alpine police officers and the crew of the emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 7 were present. The emergency services were able to free the seriously injured man around 4.50 pm. The German hiker is being treated at the Klagenfurt Clinic.
