An investigation by the Israeli Defense Forces has revealed that it is possible that a gunshot from the army last May ended the journalist’s life.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have determined that there are “great possibilities” that a bullet fired by one of their soldiers killed journalist Shireen Abu Aklehwho died in May of a gunshot to the head while covering clashes in Jenin, West Bank.
Until now, the Israeli authorities have been reluctant to admit any responsibility for this incident and, in fact, at first put forward as the main hypothesis that the journalist died as a victim of the Palestinians.
However, the Army’s internal investigation has revealed that because we are not sure who fired the shot, “there is a good chance that Shireen was accidentally hit by one IDF shot“.
He states that the shots were aimed against Palestinian “suspects” and that the Israeli military was confronted with “possibly deadly, widespread and indiscriminate” shots during these battles, according to a spokesman quoted by The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
Abu Akleh was wearing a vest and helmet that identified her as a press officer and was hit by a gunshot to the head. His funeral in the West Bank was also the subject of controversy, after Israeli security forces charged the porters.
