Against war in Ukraine – Lithuania: blood-red pond as a sign of protest

Date:

Activists in Lithuania painted a pond with blood red on Wednesday in protest at the Russian attack on Ukraine and the bloodshed in the war that has been going on since late February. A former Olympic swimming champion also took part in the campaign and swam through the water.

Ruta Meilutyte, who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics and ended her professional career in 2019, shared a video of the action on Twitter. The former professional athlete wrote: “It is a call to support the Ukrainian people who are suffering from the genocide perpetrated by Russia.”

According to media reports, the coloring of the pond was carried out in collaboration with the environmental authorities. Accordingly, it should be a harmless color. By the way, the pond was not chosen by chance – rather because it is located in a public park near the Russian embassy. The sign of protest could hardly be overlooked given the photos from Lithuania.
