Supply problems – Putin: Sanctions ‘a threat to the whole world’

Date:

In his long-awaited speech on the current situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again criticized the sanctions imposed by the West. According to the head of state, these even pose a “threat to the whole world”. Meanwhile, it became known that Russia is apparently plagued with huge supply bottlenecks – according to information from the US government, Russia has since bought large quantities of missiles and artillery ammunition from North Korea.

Last year, the corona pandemic was still the pressing challenge, Putin said on Wednesday. Now new difficulties have arisen: “I mean the sanctions fever of the West, its aggressive attempts to impose a model of behavior on other countries, deprive them of their sovereignty and subject them to their own will.”

The Russian president made the remarks at the 7th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on the Pacific. More than six months ago, Putin ordered a war of aggression against neighboring Ukraine. The US, the EU and other Western countries have therefore imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia.

Ammunition purchased from North Korea
New information from the US government shows that things are not going well for Russia in Ukraine. Given the difficulties in supplying weapons for the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia is buying large quantities of missiles and artillery ammunition from North Korea, according to US information. It could be “millions of ammunition, rockets and grenades,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday (local time).

Citing information from US intelligence, Kirby emphasized that there was still no evidence that the purchase had actually taken place. There was also no indication “that this material, these weapons, are being used in Ukraine”.

Sanctions alarm Russia
According to Kirby, Russia’s purchases from the internationally isolated North Korean government, as well as Iran’s purchase of military drones, demonstrate the country’s difficult situation after months of economic sanctions by the West aimed at weakening Russia’s war machine. It’s another indication of how “desperate” Russian President Vladimir Putin is, Kirby said.
