End of a year-long art crime thriller: A 1627 work by famed astronomer Johannes Kepler disappeared from Innsbruck’s university library. After years of denial, a German pensioner unpacked and made a confession. Downer: The historical rarity will probably be lost forever.
The unusual case was covered by many media: in July 2017, the University Library of Innsbruck was a rarity poorer: a world map by the brilliant astronomer Johannes Kepler (1571 – 1630). The value was estimated at 30,000 euros, but the ideal loss could not be determined. The 71 by 43 centimeter map is an appendix to Kepler’s “Rudolfinian Tables,” which illustrate planetary motions.
