In Memphis, Tennessee, a 19-year-old gunman killed at least four people and injured three others on a whim of an hour before police were able to arrest him after a chase Wednesday night (local time). Police Chief Cerelyn Davis spoke of at least eight crime scenes. The perpetrator broadcast some of his actions via livestream on Facebook. His motives were initially unclear.
Police Chief Davis said the 19-year-old killed his first victim just after midnight on Wednesday night. However, he was not arrested until 9 p.m. local time (Thurs 3 a.m. CEST).
Two weapons found in stolen vehicle
During his hours-long hunt for victims, authorities urged residents to stay at home. Some parts of the city have been cordoned off. After the gunman was arrested, investigators found two firearms in his stolen vehicle.
Gun violence is a common problem in the United States. Pressing for tougher gun laws has repeatedly failed due to opposition from the powerful gun lobby and conservative Republicans in Congress.
