In the midday heat, a 22-year-old collapsed during a field trip in Vienna in late June – reportedly – went into cardiac arrest and died on the spot. Now the education department, investigating the tragic case, found that no wrongdoing on the part of the school could be found.
The young man had trained with other young people in the blazing sun on a sports field at the end of June. The vocational school group attended a tasting session with the Viennese Vikings. Suddenly he collapsed and died on the spot despite the intervention of the Vienna professional rescue service.
Classmates made accusations
Classmates of the 22-year-old then made accusations against the teachers. At 35 degrees Celsius, they should not have taken a sports break or visited shady places. The education department subsequently announced a review and teachers were also questioned.
As confirmed to the APA on Thursday, no misconduct could be identified. The student could have stopped exercising at any time, the study found. There are therefore no indications of official or criminal misconduct by the school.
no autopsy
Nothing was known about any previous illnesses either. There is no corresponding statement on the accompanying calamity sheet, which the person concerned has completed for the school. As reported, no autopsy was performed.
